I Was Hired to Translate. I Ended Up Teaching an Executive Training.

It was supposed to be a simple coaching day.

I was on INSEAD campus, brought in to support the breakout groups for a room full of senior executives. Not to teach. To coach. To listen.

Then we hit a wall. The executives did not speak English. The professor could not run his own workshop without someone who spoke their language.

So I started translating. On the spot. Live.

Fifteen minutes in, he leaned over and said, “How about you run this instead?”

That sentence is where my real lesson in women in tech entrepreneurship began. Because I did not know his content. I had never seen his slides. I only knew the shape of the day, because I had done it before.

And I said yes anyway.

What happened next changed how I think about being ready for anything.

Women in Tech: You Are More Ready Than the Moment You Are Handed

He asked me to pull some of his slides in Russian and teach from those. There was one problem. I did not have his slides in Russian.

But I had something close. Just before this, I had finished a separate contract for INSEAD, reviewing the translation of one of their executive programs in business strategy  into Russian.

So I did have material. Not his. Mine. Close enough to build on.

For fifteen minutes I had been translating his ideas in real time. Which meant I already understood the structure. I knew where the day needed to go. I knew the rhythm of how executives actually learn.

I did not have his preparation. I had my own experience. And that turned out to be enough.

This is the part most women in tech miss about themselves. You think readiness means having the exact slides, the exact plan, the exact script. It does not. Readiness is knowing the structure well enough to hold the room when the script disappears.

→ I did not have his content. I knew the goal of the work.

→ I did not have his plan. I had done it before.

→ I did not feel ready. I was ready anyway.

What was meant to be a coaching engagement became a half day of teaching at INSEAD. Because I said yes before I felt qualified.

The Work You Already Did Is Quietly Waiting for You

Here is the detail I keep coming back to.

The only reason I could teach that day is that I happened to have Russian material at all. And the only reason I had it is a completely separate contract I had finished just before. Reviewing a translation. Unglamorous. Unrelated. Easy to forget.

At the time it felt like a small, ordinary piece of work. It was not the moment. It was the thing that made the moment possible.

This is how building a business actually works for executive women. You do not see the payoff of your effort in a straight line. You do one careful thing, then another, and months later they combine into something you could never have planned.

The translation contract. The years of coaching. The fact that I had run programs like this before. None of it looked like preparation for that exact day. All of it was.

Small, consistent work compounds in ways you cannot predict.

Your old projects, your side skills, your quiet expertise. They are not wasted. They are waiting.

So when you wonder whether your scattered experience adds up to anything, remember this. The next door that opens will most likely open onto work you already did.

The Diamond Ring I Bought to Remember What I Can Do

The professor did one more thing I did not expect. He negotiated my teaching fee for me (and I can tell you, he fought really hard!) A coaching rate became a teaching rate.

When that payment came in, I did something I had never done. I invested all of it into my very first diamond ring. Bought by me, for me.

Not as a status symbol. As evidence.

I wear it at every big tech event where I speak. At every masterclass. On every sales call and every client call. You have probably seen it in most of my photos ( I always wear it on my right hand).

It is not jewelry. It is a reminder. A physical anchor to the day I proved to myself how far I can stretch and how high I can go when I stop waiting to feel ready.

Confidence is not a feeling you find. It is a case you build, one piece of proof at a time. Sometimes that proof deserves to be something you can see on your own hand.

→ Mark the moment you surprised yourself.

→ Make the proof physical, where you will see it daily.

→ Let it speak on the days the doubt gets loud.

You do not need a diamond. You need a reminder of what you are actually capable of.

Something that says, on the hard days, “You have done harder than this.”

You Are More Capable Than the Story in Your Head

I walked onto that campus to translate. I walked off having taught a room of executives, earned a teaching fee, and bought myself the first real proof of what I could do.

None of it happened because I felt ready. It happened because I said yes, trusted the work I had already done, and let the result remind me who I am.

If you have been waiting to feel ready before you build your business, take this as your reminder. You are more prepared than the moment in front of you. You simply have not been shown the proof yet.

That is exactly what my free masterclass is built to do. It walks you through the full Weatherproof Business™ Formula, step by step, so you can see the structured path from idea to validated business while keeping your career intact.

The masterclass is free. Come and see what you are already ready for.
